In October 1945, inside five weeks of the official conclusion of the Second World War, MG announced the immortal TC.

Closely related to pre-war products from Abingdon oft seen on Battle of Britain airfields this traditional British car combines the styling of a swept-wing two-seater that so epitomizes MGs early years, with an emerging post-war driveability that lends itself to today’s discerning motorist.

Hydraulic brakes, synchro-mesh gearbox and adequate, if by no means lightning performance makes this classic MG the ideal car for nostalgic touring. Take the wicker hamper, picnic and travel rug and step back in time to a past and pleasant era of British motoring. For any early MG fan this could be the perfect birthday gift idea for 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th or 70th celebrations as well as honeymoons, anniversaries and other special breaks in Cornwall and Devon.

As a model the MG TC can also be largely attributed with opening up the sportscar export market from Britain to the United States.

As peerless MG historian F. Wilson McComb wrote in his history of the MG sportscar, the TC "...transformed American motor racing from a little-known professional sport into an activity within everyone’s reach. Even the Sports Car Club of America sprang from one small branch of the MG Car Club. One can scarcely believe that a couple of thousand little old fashioned two-seaters could so influence the taste of an entire nation". Indeed a remarkable little car.

Another interesting piece of MG trivia is that Steve McQueen's first car was a TC....Following an Indian Motorcycle combination McQueen bought a TC for $750 but sold it shortly after he broke a third axle and having driven the car so hard he regularly found spokes shredding out of the wire wheels! Perhaps not the greatest motoring marriage the TC needed greater care than the young McQueen appreciated - fine however for all those not wishing to escape a pursuing army!

It's useful if you have some experience of older vehicles, but of course we give a full briefing and, assuming you are of an outgoing and mildly adventurous nature, you will not merely cope driving the TC but have a great time! At 45 miles an hour you will feel like a 'respectable hooligan', so your driving licence is quite safe with this car. Drivers and passengers alike revel in the experience - all the look of vintage motoring but with a gentle nod towards modernity...

Around the premises the car is affectionately known as 'Primrose' so christened by one of our favourite repeat customers, and is the director's own car of choice for a quiet day's touring. Of all the cars on the fleet it produces the most waves, smiles and friendly reactions from passers by.
